Microghost Manga Shader (Blender)
I'm back!
I wanted to create a shader that's super quick to use and also customizable. I really enjoy the intricacy and variety of techniques that I see in good manga illustrations, and I wanted to make a shader that makes that quick to achieve and compatible with animation.
I handrew some seamless textures, which gives it a more human feeling than doing everything entirely procedurally.
The basic idea of the shader is that you have two main node groups: a mapping group and a texture group. The mapping group outputs a bunch of "maps", which you can use to mix the textures from the texture group to create a huge amount of different looks. There is also a group to simulate watercolor style paint, and one for a light reactive halftone.
Huge thanks to Kristof Dedene (come back king) and CG Cookie, and the many others who's knowledge I have absorbed over time. I also appreciate everyone who has given feedback and advice, that is always very helpful.
The shader is compatible with 3.6+ (and possibly earlier, but untested), and is EEVEE only. I usually combine it with grease pencil or freestyle.
